Hi All,
You’ve been getting these emails for a few months and might be wondering what it’s all adding up to.
When I started this list for my Assembly campaign, emails were best when they turned into real-world encounters: gathering to discuss our challenges and aspirations, knocking neighbors’ doors to share our vision, making our voices heard at the ballot box.
These emails have the same goal. We’re building a community of New Yorkers with a shared vision for a more affordable, vibrant, flourishing future—then using our power to create it.
This year, it’s been thrilling to meet some of you for the first time over coffee, to see you come together with fellow Community Board members, and to chat alongside you with elected officials and candidates at fundraisers and meet-and-greets. Let’s keep it up!
Here are upcoming events we or members of our community are hosting:
A fundraiser for Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Tuesday, April 16th, at 6:30pm in Clinton Hill ($175 donations requested via donate link on RSVP page)
A constituent meet-and-greet with Councilman Lincoln Restler. If you live in the 33rd Council District and might want to join, let me know!
Finally, keep an eye out for an invitation to a forthcoming purely social monthly happy hour for folks on this list—and friends and allies—to get together. Launching mid-May!
In addition, check out events from groups we work alongside (and look for us at them!):
A rally for housing, Wednesday, April 10th, at 10:30am in City Hall Park
A breakfast conversation between one of our favorite local journalists, Ben Max, and Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer about the state budget on Monday, April 15th, at 8:30am in Lower Manhattan
A Community Board social co-hosted by Open Plans and Open New York on Friday, April 19th, from 6-8pm in Soho
Today, too many of the most engaged communities of voters in New York are the ones fighting against change: against new homes for all neighbors, against people-first streets, against infrastructure needed to climate-proof our communities.
We’re about embracing the growth and change that have always been New York’s superpowers—and, much like an eclipse, the full glory of this community can't be experienced by email :)
Hope to see you soon,
Ryder
P.S. Yesterday's Offline podcast episode was all about the community-building foundation of political action. Take a listen to get amped up for coming together!
